Stripe Hog customers talk about removal methods

James Crocker explains waterblasting safety advantages

For Road Markings Removal

The traditional method of road marking removal has been grinding. Others methods found around the world include shot blasting, sand blasting, soda blasting, and gas torches. When compared with waterblasting, the advantages are very clear.

Grinding
Scarring of the Pavement Surface: Grinding will always create some measure of scarring. The amount of scarring will be determined by the precision of the equipment being used and the skill of the operator. However, in order for a grinder to remove marking material imbedded in the recesses of asphalt, scarring will occur. In freezing temperatures; rain, snow and ice can collect in these scarred areas creating unforeseen hazards.

Environmentally Hazardous: The by-product of the grinding process is basically marking and asphalt residue. Most often, this residue is left on the road to be blown away by the wind or washed away by the rain. If there is any clean-up of the grinding residue, it is typically a secondary process provided by either a mechanical broom or a vacuum truck.

Cannot Remove Temporary Tape: Grinders are not able to effectively remove and dispose of temporary tape markings.

Waterblasting
Scarring of the Pavement Surface: The needle sharp waterjets of a properly designed waterblasting system will reach like tin fingers into the pores of the asphalt with remarkable effectiveness. While a small measure of the asphalt fines make break away, the surface plain of the asphalt remains unscarred. When driving over an area where a road marking was removed effectively by waterblasting, you will not feel any change in the surface of the pavement.

Environmentally Friendly: With properly designed captive waterblasting, the needle sharp waterjets pulverize the marking reducing it to fine particles. At 40,000 psi, the chaos created within the captive environment enhances the effectiveness of the vacuum recovery. The result is precision removal and a very clean, nearly dry surface.

Removes Temporary Tape: The needle sharp waterjets pulverize temporary tape and the simultaneous vacuum recovery removes it from the surface.

Shotblasting Vs. Waterblasting
Shotblasting: Shotblasting is extremely slow and limited in the number of applications where it performs effectively.

Waterblasting: Waterblasting is remarkably fast and nearly unlimited in the number of applications where it performs exceptionally.

Sand blasting Vs. Waterblasting
Sand blasting: Painfully slow and laborious. Extremely dirty and environmentally unfriendly.

Waterblasting: Quick, clean, and environmentally friendly!

Soda blasting Vs. Waterblasting
Soda blasting: Painfully slow and laborious. Extremely dirty and environmentally unfriendly.

Waterblasting: Quick, clean, and environmentally friendly!

Gas torching Vs. Waterblasting
Gas Torching: Painfully slow, laborious, and sometimes physically hazardous. Most environmentally hazardous of known road marking removal methods.

Waterblasting: Quick, clean, and environmentally friendly!

The complete removal of all forms of durable traffic markings from all surfaces has never been as quick, clean and cost efficient. And perhaps best of all, very little to no confusing mark left behind, NO re-surfacing, and NO secondary clean-up or drying necessary.

Thermoplastic, waterborne paints, epoxy paints, rubberized paints, even temporary and permanent foil backed or waffle tapes do not stand a chance against the 40,000 psi (2750 bar), Stripe Hog®!

The very best in high-pressure waterblasting and simultaneous vacuum recovery now exist on a single, fully self contained, mobile unit. The “Stripe Hog®” is transforming the industry, and right now, you have a strategic opportunity to become the leader in your market with a system developed by a contractor like yourself who simply found a better way.
